Architectural Design 5

Project 1.1 and 1.2

Project 1.1

The Architectural Design V project focuses on urban design through a Learning Center at Merdeka 118, Kuala Lumpur. It emphasizes townscape appraisal to evaluate the site's character, identity, and strengths. Students explore urban morphology, responsive environments, and behavioral patterns to propose interventions fostering social integration and sustainability. Inspired by theories from Gordon Cullen and Kevin Lynch, the project challenges students to design community-centric spaces that enhance walkability, inclusivity, and cultural vibrancy. Integrating public spaces and architectural cohesion, the design aims to activate urban nodes, blending historical identity with contemporary needs, creating a responsive and engaging environment for local communities.

Project 1.2

Phase 1.2 focuses on urban intervention strategies to transform underutilized spaces at Merdeka 118 into vibrant, community-driven environments. This phase emphasizes enhancing walkability, sustainability, and inclusivity through temporary or permanent interventions like public art, shaded walkways, and community gardens. Collaboration with local stakeholders ensures designs address cultural, social, and environmental needs while adhering to design codes. Inspired by global precedents like the High Line and Madrid Rio, the interventions aim to create cohesive urban spaces with clear wayfinding, low maintenance greening, and inviting public areas. The outcome is a sustainable, people-centered urban environment that fosters community identity and connection.
